Join us at John Jay College
GhostEye will be at BSides NYC on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at John Jay College, 524 West 59th Street in New York City.
Mohammad Eshan, founder and CEO of GhostEye, will speak on the Entrepreneur track from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. in room L.76. His session is titled “The Category Trap: You Don’t Pick It, the Market Does.”
The Category Trap
When a buyer puts a security product into a category, that decision affects which budget pays for it, which alternatives it gets compared with, and how much the buyer expects to spend.
Eshan will share GhostEye’s experience building a product that sat between established categories. Buyers compared it with scanners while the team sought a place in the detection-and-response budget. Changing the pitch alone did not resolve that mismatch.
The session examines how founders can recognize a category mismatch, understand its commercial cost, and decide what to change. It also considers the buyer’s perspective: how a familiar category can hide differences between products that appear comparable on a shortlist.
