HAR file
A HAR file is a JSON-formatted HTTP Archive that records captured web requests and responses for troubleshooting, and may include sensitive information from that traffic.
A troubleshooting file can contain working secrets
A HAR export helps support teams examine requests, responses, and timing. What it contains depends on the capture and export settings. It can include URLs, headers, cookies, and submitted or returned content, rather than just a list of connection times.
That makes the file potentially sensitive even when it contains no password. A session cookie or access token may authorize activity; request data may contain personal or business information. Neither belongs in a public ticket simply because it was collected for debugging.
What “sanitized” means
Chrome DevTools documents a sanitized export that excludes sensitive headers such as Cookie, Set-Cookie, and Authorization. It also offers an export with sensitive data. Do not treat those choices as equivalent.
Sanitization is useful, but the label is not a guarantee that every sensitive value has been removed. Okta warns that sanitizers can miss unusual field names, certain content types, or information in request bodies. Review the actual export using the organization’s approved process before sharing it.
Keep the capture limited to the issue being investigated and verify the support case and upload destination. The support HAR files article covers that review and what to do if a trace has already been shared with the wrong recipient. The response depends on what was exposed; deleting an attachment does not itself revoke a credential copied from it.
